Most large company that produce goods and services have no direct contact with their ultimate customers, the consumers who pick their products up off of supermarket shelves, in WalMart or any retail store. It’s all rather impersonal and at a distance. The problem these large companies have is that they must know what consumers think to improve existing products and start new ones.

So they hire market researchers to measure consumer opinion and report back their findings. The market researchers use a variety of tools to do this. Probably the most important is the paid online survey. Thousands of these surveys are being made every day.
